Description

What we like about this boot.

The colour. This is a warm, even brown that does not try to be something it is not. It works with dark jeans. It works with grey chinos. It works with the navy trousers you wear to that meeting you forgot about. Brown is the one colour that never makes you think twice about what to wear with it.

The slip-on speed is real. No laces to double-knot when you are running late for the 7:14 from Birmingham Moor Street. No zip that catches on your socks. Open shaft, foot in, done. Men who switch from lace-up boots to slip-on western boots almost never go back.

The grip surprised us. A rubber sole with a proper tread pattern — not the smooth decorative sole you see on cheaper western boots that turns every wet pavement into a skating rink. This one handles the walk from Selfridges to New Street station on a rainy Tuesday without any drama.

What we would change.

The material is PU, not leather. We are honest about this. PU looks like leather from a normal distance and holds its shape well through British seasons. But it does not develop the character that full-grain leather builds over years of wear. It will not darken at the creases. It will not soften into that broken-in feel that leather boot lovers talk about.

For some men, that is a dealbreaker. If you want leather that ages with you, browse our men’s cowboy boots range for leather options.

For other men — honestly most men who buy this boot — the zero-maintenance trade-off is worth it. No conditioner. No polish. No careful drying after rain. A damp cloth wipe handles everything. That simplicity is why this is one of our most reordered styles.

Who this boot is actually for?

Men who wear boots five or six days a week and do not want to think about them. The guy who walks through central Birmingham or Manchester every morning and needs something that looks right without effort. The dad doing the school run near Sparkhill who wants to look put-together in 30 seconds flat. The office worker whose dress code sits somewhere between formal and whatever-is-clean.

This is not a statement boot. It does not turn heads at festivals. It does not start conversations at the pub. It is the boot you forget you are wearing by lunchtime — and that is exactly why it works.

How it holds up over time.

PU does not crack the way bonded leather does. It holds its colour for the life of the boot. The rubber sole wears at the heel first — after roughly six to nine months of daily use, you will see the tread start to flatten, which is normal for any boot worn this frequently.

The shaft holds its shape well if you store it upright. No boot trees needed. Just stand them up at the end of the day.

Sizing reality.

Runs true to standard UK sizing. The fit is relaxed — not loose, not tight. A size 9 in regular shoes means a size 9 here. Men with narrow feet sometimes find the ankle area slightly roomy. A thicker boot sock fixes this and adds comfort at the same time.

Between sizes — always go up. A slightly bigger boot with the right sock is better than a slightly tight boot that you avoid wearing.

Sizes: UK 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12.

FAQs

These look identical to the brown and white boots. What is different?

The brown and white boots have a two-tone colour block with a white panel contrast. These are solid brown throughout – cleaner, more understated. Same sole, same construction, different visual impact. The solid brown is more versatile for the office and smart casual. The two-tone is bolder for casual and weekend wear.

I need boots for a job where I am on my feet eight hours. Will these cope?
The cushioned PU insole and rubber sole handle long days well. Several buyers use these for retail work, warehouse shifts and jobs that involve standing and walking on hard floors. Comfort improves over the first week as the insole settles to your foot. For very long shifts, replacing the insole with a gel insert from Boots or Superdrug gives extra support.
Will the brown colour match my tan belt?
This is a mid-brown, warmer than chocolate and cooler than tan. It sits comfortably with most brown belts and watch straps. Will not be an exact match to tan or dark brown accessories but close enough that nobody notices.
Can I wear these to a wedding?
A casual or outdoor wedding, yes. Under dark jeans or tailored chinos with a blazer, these pass as smart casual footwear. A formal black-tie wedding — probably not. The western silhouette reads as relaxed, not formal.
How do these compare to Clarks or Timberland at the same price?
Different purpose. Clarks and Timberland, at £130, give you heritage boot styling with leather and traditional lacing. These give you western styling with zero-fuss slip-on convenience. If speed and ease matter more than leather heritage, these win. If leather character matters more, look at traditional boot brands.
